LGBT Health Awareness Week is March 27-31, 2017. OneWorld is proud to provide quality, affordable health care specially designed to fit the needs of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (and/or questioning) patients. No matter what a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity may be, that person will be welcomed and treated with respect at all of our clinics.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), teens and young adults in the LGBTQ+ community are at increased risk for experiences with violence when compared with their heterosexual peers. Violence can include behaviors such as bullying, teasing, harassment, physical assault and suicide-related behaviors. Any young people struggling with violence can visit our Teen and Young Adult Health Center, where they will have the opportunity to meet with a clinician and, if needed, a behavioral health therapist. The Teen and Young Adult Health Center staff specializes in understanding the needs of young people under the age of 24, and all our clinics will treat all patients with compassion and respect.

OneWorld is able to address the physical and mental health needs of LGBTQ+ people of all ages. We are able to provide confidential STD testing and treatment at multiple clinics, and clinicians are able to counsel patients about STD prevention. If patients think they might be at risk of contracting HIV, they can talk to OneWorld doctors about pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP. PrEP is a pill that, when taken every day, helps people prevent HIV infections by working to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection after exposure. We are also equipped to help patients through the process of HIV testing and, if needed, referral for treatment. If test results are positive, patients will receive counseling about what to do next.

We can help transgender individuals begin hormone treatment, and our doctors will treat patients before, during and after the transition process. If needed, providers can help patients access behavioral health services and other resources and services outside of OneWorld. Our doctors work with each patient to make sure everyone receives the best possible care.
