OneWorld Community Health Centers, Inc., (OneWorld) has been recognized as a “Leader in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. The findings are part of HRC Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index 2014. This annual survey encourages equal care for LGBT Americans and identifies healthcare institutions doing the best work.
Across the nation, 426 healthcare facilities, including OneWorld, were named Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality. Leaders must meet key criteria including patient and employee non-discrimination policies that specifically mention sexual orientation and gender identity as well as LGBT health education for key staff members. “OneWorld is proud to be recognized for providing equitable, inclusive services to LGBT patients who can face significant challenges in securing the quality health care. At OneWorld, we create an environment that fosters human dignity, respect and compassion for LGBT patients and their families,” said Andrea Skolkin, OneWorld’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality change the lives of LGBT patients and their families for the better each and every day,” said Chad Griffin, HRC president. “LGBT people should be treated equally in all aspects of our lives, and HRC celebrates OneWorld for their tireless work to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all patients.”
