STDs are a problem in our community, but many people who have an STD don’t have symptoms, so they don’t know they have one. One of the top health care concerns in Douglas County is that adolescents and young adults (ages 15 to 24) have higher rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea than any other age group.
There are more than 20 types of STDs, but the most common diseases are chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS/HPV, syphilis, herpes simplex and trichomoniasis. Not all STDs are curable, but they are all treatable, and with help from your health care provider, they can all be manageable.
The only way to know for sure whether or not you have an STD is to get tested. Whenever you’re ready to take a test, OneWorld is here to help you with the process, and we can help you with treatment if needed. Standard STD tests only require a urine sample, and HIV tests require a finger poke.
OneWorld strives to make the testing process accessible and easy for people of all ages, and tests are always completely confidential. Adults can call any of our clinics to make an appointment. Our Teen and Young Adult Health Center provides free STD testing and treatment for young people ages 12-24. Teens and young adults are welcome to bring parents or friends their appointments at the Teen and Young Adult Health Center, but parent presence is not required for birth control and STD-related appointments at the clinic.
Regardless of your STD status, you can have a healthy, fulfilling relationship. For more information about STDs and STD testing at OneWorld, call your most convenient OneWorld location.
