OneWorld and the Immigrant Legal Center formed a unique Immigrant-Focused Medical/Legal Partnership (IMLP) in July of 2017. This partnership assists qualifying OneWorld patients by providing them with an immigration attorney who will answer any immigration-related questions, identify potential forms of relief and, if relief is available, provide direct legal assistance free of charge.

OneWorld patients who qualify for IMLP assistance are survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking or other violent crimes; children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned; young adults eligible for DACA; or patients with complex medical needs.

Since the program’s inception through mid-April of this year, the IMLP team has provided 88 legal consultations to OneWorld patients and family members regarding eligibility for immigration relief, public benefits and other legal issues that were identified as health-harming. Extended legal representation was given to OneWorld patients in 61 cases, which included representing people before various courts and agencies, applying for forms of immigration relief (DACA, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U visa, T visa, VAWA self-petition, etc.) and assisting with rights and safety planning.
