More than 400 OneWorld supporters gathered at our 2018 Milagro Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 8 to honor individuals and organizations who have touched the lives of our patients with their kindness and compassion.

The sold-out event was held in the Grand Central Ballroom at the Hilton Omaha Downtown, and guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and a silent auction in the lobby before dinner.

Laura van Dernoot Lipsky, founder and director of The Trauma Stewardship Institute and author of Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others, was our guest speaker for the evening. She is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of trauma exposure, and she spoke about how important it is for providers and caregivers to take time to care for themselves as they care for others.

OneWorld’s 2018 Milagro awards were presented to four deserving recipients for their commitment to helping our patients:

  • Robert Aranda, principal of Omaha Bryan High School
  • Ruben Cano, principal of Omaha South High School
  • Dr. Peter Silberstein, Division Chief of Hematology and Oncology and Professor of Medicine at Creighton Medical School/Alegent and Chief of Oncology at the Veterans Administration Hospital
  • The Women’s Fund of Omaha (Brenda J. Council, Adolescent Health Manager for the Women’s Fund of Omaha, accepted the award on behalf of the organization)

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, donors, silent auction participants and event attendees, proceeds from the event will directly support programs that provide essential services to OneWorld patients in need. Special thanks to our Milagro-level sponsors for the evening: Michael and Susan Lebens and NuStyle Development.
