OneWorld is proud to be named a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). To be awarded the distinction, healthcare facilities are required to meet four core criteria:
1. Have a patient non-discrimination policy that includes “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” that is communicated to patients and staff
2. Maintain a family-friendly policy for visitors accompanying patients that includes the LGBT-inclusive definition for family
3. Have an employment non-discrimination policy that includes “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” that is communicated to the public
4. Train staff in LGBT patient-centered care.
Over 1,500 healthcare facilities across the nation were evaluated by the HRC Foundation and the results were published in the 2014 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).
According to the HRC Foundation, the HEI was developed to provide facilities with the “information and resources they need to ensure that the LGBT community has access to patient-centered care.”
