OneWorld is proud to announce that the grand opening of our second mobile dental clinic, the “Fluo-ride,” will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Remarks will begin at 9 a.m., and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow. Attendees will meet in Karen Western Elementary School’s parking lot (6224 H St. in Omaha) for the event.
Friends of OneWorld, education and health professionals and members of the press are invited to join us as we officially open our newest dental clinic for school-aged children.
Each year, this mobile dental clinic will supplement the work done by our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® and treat several hundred low-income children in Omaha and its surrounding communities.
The Fluo-ride will visit area schools and other community locations to provide basic dental care like exams, cleanings, fillings, fluoride varnishes and more for children who might otherwise go without these services. By visiting schools, the Fluo-ride will allow children to receive dental care without their parents needing to miss work for appointments. In the summer, the mobile dental clinic will visit community locations and summer school programs to continue providing children with needed dental care.
“Providing children with access to dental care is important because tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease,” Andrea Skolkin, Chief Executive Officer of OneWorld, said. “About 20 percent of children who are between 5 and 11 years old have at least one untreated decayed tooth. Nationwide, children miss more than 51 million hours of school every year because of dental-related issues.”
The Fluo-ride mobile dental clinic is made possible thanks to generous contributions from the following philanthropists:
- American National Bank
- Gilbert M. and Martha H. Hitchcock Foundation
- Holland Foundation
- Immanuel Vision Foundation
- Oliver and Ferrol Barklage Foundation
- Richard Brooke Foundation
