OneWorld is proud to join the Metro Area Raise Me to Read Initiative, a community-based campaign that supports literacy and early learning for every child across Pottawattamie County, Iowa. It is sponsored by the Metropolitan Area Education Consortium, United Way of the Midlands, and the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy County.
The Initiative emphasizes the importance of school readiness, school attendance, and summer learning. The goals of the Initiative are to have students enter kindergarten, ready to learn, and to have all students read proficiently by third grade. To do this, the Initiative plans to engage and educate the community about the importance of early childhood literacy.
This Initiative involves the health industry, business and faith communities, the non-profit sector, governmental entities, schools, early childhood providers, and, most importantly, parents and caregivers of our children.
At OneWorld, we understand the value of childhood literacy. Through our Reach Out and Read Program, we give a book to young children at every well-child check, and help parents and children read or tell stories together. The program has been officially endorsed by The American Academy of Pediatricians.
