‘Vision Van’ brings eye care into focus for OneWorld patients
Dozens receive vision care, thanks to a collaboration between OneWorld, the Health Center Association of Nebraska, Centene and VedaPoint
Ninety patients can set their sights on a clearer future, after a vision care mobile unit visited OneWorld Commmunity Health Centers in Omaha Aug. 8, 2025.
The Centene Vision Van offered OneWorld patients and others free vision screenings and glasses, thanks to a partnership with the Health Center Association of Nebraska, Centene and VedaPointe.
“In collaboration with the Centene Vision Van sponsors and partners, we are pleased to provide access to vision care for our patients and community,” said OneWorld CEO Andrea Skolkin. “Offering access to this essential service is at the heart of our mission to care for all people, and our strong partners help make this mission a reality.”
Vision care may not always be a priority for uninsured patients who are making difficult choices about finances, according to OneWorld Patient Support Supervisor Yesenia Chavez. Alternatively, parents may prioritize glasses for their children but not for themselves.
“This is ensuring patients that they get the glasses they need,” Chavez said. “Hopefully after receiving their first pair of free glasses, it also helps them say, ‘I can see a lot better. I drive a lot better now.’ Plus kiddos are doing great at school because they can actually see the board.”
Ahead of the Centene Vision Van’s visit, teams at OneWorld identified patients who had received optometry referrals for vision problems or routine exams. Teams then reached out to check interest in scheduling an appointment. Walk-ins were also welcome – which opened access care for accompanying family members and others stopping by.
Partnering organizations were pleased with the opportunity to collaborate on a shared goal to provide vision care for more people.
“We were honored to welcome the Centene Vision Van to our communities, thanks to the generous support and partnership of Centene and VedaPointe,” said Amy Behnke, CEO of Health Center Association of Nebraska. “This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to ensuring everyone has access to essential vision care. We are truly grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it brings to the patients and families served by our community health centers.”
