Sarah Preston
LIMHP, LADC
Behavioral Health Therapist
Sarah is a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC) in Nebraska, holding both a Master of Public Health and a Master of Social Work. She brings a breadth of experience from providing behavioral health services in residential addiction treatment and community-based settings. In addition to her clinical work, she has served in supervisory roles supporting fellow clinicians, taught Master of Social Work (MSW) courses at the university level and participates on advisory boards and committees dedicated to expanding access to and improving mental health care.
Her approach to therapy is person-centered, strengths-based and systems oriented. Sarah believes each individual is the expert on their own life and that effective therapy honors personal autonomy, lived experience and inherent resilience. She often shares with clients that she is not a typical therapist because she is a social worker. This perspective allows her to bring a broader, more holistic lens to the therapy process, integrating clinical care with a deep understanding of systems, social determinants of health and the real-world factors that shape emotional well-being.
Sarah is passionate about whole-person health care and firmly believes that mental health is health care. She works collaboratively with clients to identify approaches that align with their goals, values and needs, and she strives to create a therapeutic space that feels supportive, respectful, practical and empowering. Her priority is to help clients feel seen, understood and equipped to move toward meaningful and lasting change.
Sarah’s areas of expertise and services cover conditions and circumstances including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, substance use and addiction, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, chronic health conditions and their impact on mental health, life transitions, relationship and family concerns, and stressors related to systems and stage of life (e.g., work, health care, legal, social services).

She can provide:
- Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART): ART is an evidence-based, trauma-focused psychotherapy recognized by the American Psychological Association. ART uses guided eye movements and imagery to help clients experiencing distressing images and sensations associated with trauma and other concerns. This process allows symptoms to resolve quickly, often within a limited number of sessions.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT supports individuals in identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. This structured, evidence-based approach is effective in treating anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns and substance use-related behaviors.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-Informed Treatment: DBT-informed interventions focus on building skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. This approach is particularly helpful for individuals experiencing intense emotions, relationship difficulties or maladaptive coping strategies.
- Substance use and co-occurring treatment: With clinical experience in residential addiction treatment and community-based settings, Sarah can provide integrated care for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns. Treatment is recovery-oriented, strengths-based and tailored to each individual’s goals.
- Systems-oriented clinical social work: As a licensed clinical social worker, Sarah brings a systems perspective to therapy by addressing not only individual symptoms, but also the environmental, relational and structural factors that impact mental health. This may include coordination of care, advocacy and support navigating complex systems.
