OneWorld Spotlight: Megan Schunk

Though she just recently joined OneWorld in 2024, Megan Schunk, CNM, APRN, began to see herself in her current role well before that. But before she could turn her vision of patient care into reality, she had to step into the unknown.

“I went to school specifically to be a midwife at OneWorld,” Schunk said. “As a labor and delivery nurse I witnessed first-hand the relationships that the midwives formed with their patients. It was always evident that themidwife cared about the patient as a whole person, not only as a patient, and I could see the lasting impact this person-centered care had on each woman. As a result, I was inspired to follow in their path.”

Schunk served as labor and delivery nurse for 11 years at Bergan Mercy Hospital before coming to OneWorld. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Nebraska Omaha, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University. She holds additional certifications in electronic fetal monitoring and neonatal resuscitation.

“Now, as a midwife at OneWorld, I have the privilege of building those same lasting relationships with my patients,” Schunk said. “I find true fulfillment in caring for women throughout their entire life journey, but there’s something uniquely rewarding about supporting a woman as she transitions into motherhood. From the first prenatal visit, to the birth of her baby, and continuing through the postpartum period, I’m honored to be a guiding presence during such a transformative time in her life.”

Outside of work, Schunk enjoys spending time with her family. She is married and has five children, so much of her family time involves watching her kids at their various activities. They also like to travel together when possible, including to places like Disneyland, Colorado and Florida.

Personally and professionally, Schunk has held onto an important piece of advice: “If you don’t try, you’ll never know.” She said embracing this advice has led to some of the most profound experiences of her life, including pursuing a career in midwifery and adopting her youngest daughter.

Schunk said: “Taking that first step into the unknown, no matter how daunting, has truly shaped the course of my life in ways I could have never anticipated.”
